Players in Red Dead Redemption 2 will want to explore the Bluewater Marsh and learn about the Night Folk for at least two reasons. The first reason, there’s a specific quest that’s tied to these people that can only be acquired after you have met up with them once. Secondly, they are by far one of the most terrifying things you’ll find in the game and the Night Folk present a mystery that many players will probably want to explore.
To kick off your first experience with the Night Folk you are going to want to head up to Bluewater Marsh, which is located north of Saint Denis in Lemoyne. Once you reach the swamps, wait until night—between the times of 10PM and 5AM in-game—and then explore a little bit. It’s during this time period that you’ll have a chance to run into the Night Folk for the first time.
When you’ve managed to catch their attention, and your first experience with the Night Folk is over, you’ll be given a quest which should appear on your map automatically after you rest up at a campfire. Head to the location marked to begin the quest A Fine Night For It”, where you’ll learn more about the Night Folk, who have stolen a claim of land from an old man. Complete the mission for another chance to go head-to-head with the Night Folk and then meet with the old man again to collect your rewards.
